Our Company History

Founded in 1974 by late Mr. Guy Margel, the European Gemological Laboratory (EGL) opened the first gemological laboratory in Antwerp Belgium. Since then EGL has expanded its frontiers to many different parts of the world. The laboratory in New York was opened in 1975 followed by Los Angeles in 1978. EGL South Africa opened in 1980 and the laboratories in Paris and London opened in 1981 and 1982. Laboratories opened in Tel Aviv, Seoul, Istanbul in the 90's, Mumbai in 2003, Delhi in 2004, Hong Kong in 2008 and Prague in 2011. Today, the diamond grading and gemological services offered by the EGL Laboratories are recognized throughout the world and the company is an integral part of the global diamond industry.
